Yak and Buff's Weapon Pack v2.0 1) What's being installed 2) What the files do 3) What's required 4) New feature 5) About the mines 6) Make a mission 7) Credits This zip should be extracted in your FS dir (usually C:\games\freespace\). It might be helpful to put a shortcut to the install.bat and uninstall.bat files on your desktop. Read on for more info. **PROBLEMS, COMMENTS, SUGGESTIONS?** Please E-mail me at given9090@earthlink.net and tell me. I check my mail frequently. 1) What's being installed: *.bat - Freespace\Data\ *.fsm - Freespace\Data\Missions\ *.ani - Freespace\Data\Interface\ *.tbl - FreeSpace\Data\Tables\ *.pcx - FreeSpace\Data\Effects\ This weapons pack enables MINES - the ability to deploy and detonate powerful 0-velocity bombs in a weapons pack-enabled mission. The mines are fully functional for three multiplayer missions, all included in this pack! (See below for more info) Whenever you want to use the mines, run install.bat located in you FreeSpace/Data dir, which will install all the files needed to use the mines if you have not already done so. install.bat should be run the first time you want to use the pack also. Once installed, the pack will stay installed until uninstall.bat is run. ***IMPORTANT*** In order to play a normal single player or multiplayer mission (in other words, anything other than Minefield.fsm, 3team.fsm, or VasMine.fsm), the pack must be uninstalled BEFORE FS loads. If you run uninstall.bat and it lists a lot of files that weren't found, that probably means the pack is already uninstalled. To be sure though, run install.bat then uninstall.bat before running FS. 2) What the files do: -install.bat and uninstall.bat simply rename every file that is needed to use the weapons pack. uninstall.bat renames every valid filename that was installed to a temporary filename that FS ignores. install.bat does the reverse. -Minefield.fsm, 3team.fsm, and VasMine.fsm are fun missions that were designed for people with the mines weapons pack. These are all multiplayer missions, and all of them (except 3team.fsm) must be played with two or more players. 3team.fsm can be played with one to six players. -anything.ani is a file that complements the weapons pack with icons or pictures. -anything.tbl is for the properties for each weapon we have added. -anything.pcx changes the appearance of a certain ship or weapon. 3) What's required: A 3D accelerator card would help for the missions in the pack, but is not required. 4) New feature: Most of the mines use a feature called 'Remote Detonation'. That means after you deploy a mine, a second press of the fire button will detonate that mine. To see which mines use remote detonation, click on a weapon in the weapon selection section in the breifing, or see below. 5) About the mines: Shorter descriptions can be found in the breifing weapons selection room. Just click on a mine icon and the screen to the right will display the information. Powermine- The Powermine was the first mine to be created by the GTI. It carries a large payload capable of destroying any fighter or bomber if detonated near it. This mine takes advantage of the new Remote Detonate feature, which allows you to deploy the mine, then detonate it by pressing the fire button again. It is suggested that this mine be used for traps against enemy fighters, or other offensive of defensive maneuvers. Scatter Mine- The Scatter Mine is a more powerful version of the Synaptic Cluster Bomb. Once detonated, the mine will release 15 modified bomblets that will track any enemies in range. Upon the bomblets' detonations, they will each spawn one potent mine. It is suggested that this mine should be used to clear out large wings of fighters or bombers. Swarm Mine- The Swarm Mine is a small mine that takes up little cargo space, allowing fighters to carry very large quantities of the mine at one time. The drawback to the Swarm mine is that because of the mine's very short lifetime and small shockwave, the mines need to be deployed with very precise timing. It is suggested that these mines be used while you are engaging an enemy fighter at very close range, as both an offensive and defensive action. Disruptor Mine- The Disruptor Mine, a second generation Stiletto bomb, is far more powerful than its predecessor, and has a large shockwave that will cause heavy damage subsystems and shields alike. It also incorporates the new Remote Detonate feature. It is suggested that this mine be used to disable your targets so that you will have little trouble destroying them. Scavenger Mine- The Scavenger Mine, a top secret project of the GTI, appears to be a slow moving bomb, but is referred to as a mine because of its lack of engine thrusters. Instead of an engine thruster, the Scav's core is surrounded by an electromagnetic shell. This shell immediately locks on to your target's sensor array signature, causing the Scav to literally be 'attracted' to your target. Due to the power of the electromagnet, it is possible for you to fire this mine with your back turned to the enemy, and it will still be able to track your target. Since it does not have thrusters, it does not require fuel. Therefore, the mine has a much longer lifetime, and will only detonate when its core's components become unstable. The Scav Mine can be an extremely deadly weapon when used properly. 6) Make a mission You can make a weapons pack-enabled mission (one that allows mines) yourself! Simply run install.bat to make sure the pack is installed, launch FRED, and make a mission that can be played by anyone who has the pack! 7) Credits: AF-Yakbutter \____ weapons pack design AF-McBuff / Cheese ----- was a delicious and refreshing snack for the staff!
