===== (1) Description =====

The MediaVPs are a set of VP (container) files that add new art and effects to the FS2_Open engine. Note that these are not a replacement for the retail Freespace 2 VP files, so you must have the retail Freespace 2 VPs present in the Freespace 2 installation folder. (ie by installing Freespace 2)
 

===== (2) Installation =====
Requirements:

-> A working install of Freespace 2. If you do not have the retail Freespace 2, it (and Freespace 1 separately) can be purchased from Good Old Games for $6 USD:  http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/freespace_2

-> A working version of Freespace Open 3.6.10 and it's associated Launcher 5.5d. For more details here, see:  http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,47640.0.html


Installation:

1) - Be sure to remove any old MediaVP versions you had from the mediavps folder. Note that anything in the data folder ("\FreeSpace2\mediavps\data") will override the new media VP content, so remember to remove that content AS WELL AS the old VP files themselves.

2) - If it does not already exist, create a new folder called "mediavps" in your Freespace 2 install folder, and place the MV_*.vp files in there.
So, if you installed Freespace 2 to "C:\Games\FreeSpace2" then you would place these Media VP files into "C:\Games\FreeSpace2\mediavps".

3) - Open the launcher and go to the MOD tab and click "Select MOD". From here select the 'mediavps' folder and click ok.

4) - Go to the "Features" tab to activate the specific features FSO offers. The recommended settings are:

==> Graphics List:

	Enable Specular
	Enable Glowmaps
	Enable Environment Maps
	Apply Lighting to Missiles
	Enable Normal Maps
	(Personal preference) Enable 3D Shockwaves (switches shockwaves from always facing the camera to spawning with random orientations)

==> Gameplay List:

	Enable 3D Warp
	(Personal preference) Enable Flash on Warp (switches a simple flare effect on that flashes when a subspace vortex opens and closes)

==> In the "Custom Flags field" copy & paste (Without the quotes): "-ambient_factor 35 -ogl_spec 20 -spec_exp 15 -spec_point 1.2 -spec_static 1.5 -spec_tube 1.5"

Q: "I have no idea what I'm doing! How do I get everything working?"

Q: "What difference does MV_Advanced make to my experiences?"
A: The complete package contains the contents of MV_Advanced already. For those who download individual files, MV_Advanced contains the highest resolution versions of all maps and effects the community has to offer. These are relatively resource intensive graphics and added animations that can slow down older to mid range machines. The standard set of VPs (ie, without Advanced) has been optimised for maximum performance on these older machines.

Q: "Is there a manual or tutorial for fs2_open?"
A: Indeed there is! Check out the Wiki link at the bottom of this document.

Q: "I've found a bug with the Media VPs! What can I do?"
A: Post a topic in the HLP forums in the Freespace Upgrade Project forum, or report it using Mantis as we check there as well. MediaVP Mantis is located here: http://www.hard-light.net/mantis/

Q: "Levels are loading slowly. Is there any way to speed them up?"
A: Try removing or disabling features or mediaVP files. Note that MV_Assets and MV_Effects are designed to be used in conjunction with each other. The features in the "Game Speed" tab of the launcher may also help.
